update

- got new irons last week (5-PW), Callaway Tour X-20 with 1 degree flat lie angle. definitely solved my yanking problem, except with my gap wedge.

- swing is getting more consistant. starting to play the exec course more now, which is helping my irons alot.

- my latest swing thoughts. ON PLANT THE ENTIRE TIME, hip movement starts a very slow downswing (I think this is creating lag). and stay behind the ball.

- putting, need some more work on lag putting.

cantigny

went to cantigny and practice for a few hours. have a really nice practice area and hit chips for about an hour. Had very thick rough which made for a nice test. flop shots off the fairway starting to be fairly consistant.

Hit my driver horribly until the last 3 swings. When i just focus on staying on plane good things occur.

Distance wedges are feeling better. really need to focus on staying back on the 3/4 swings. still not sure why that is...

Will play tomorrow at GCI. Forecast is windy so that could be a bit scary.

saturday october 13th

played about 11 holes in the afternoon. feeling more stable in my irons and staying behind the ball. Still need to focus on my alignment on my distance wedges.

Driver has gotten bad-- i am jumping at it and not staying off plane.

my chipping was quite good. A couple great up and downs.

October 6th and 7th

played a couple times this weekend. 9 holes saturday morning at Wilmette and Willow Hill on Sunday morning. I also got my new Detour putter Saturday afternoon.

Saturday: Definitely a bit rusty and some of the play was similar to that at Glenmore. Hit Driver well, especially when I didn't overswing and stayed behind. Still need to be a bit more careful on my swing line. Left myself about 75 yards for my approach on 8 after one of the best golf balls I have hit in a while.

Struggled a good deal with my 30-50 yard wedges include some slice shanks. (I think I cured this a bit on sunday). In the meantime, I have been just using my PW on the intermediate wedges and it has helped some.

Iron was pretty bad with a couple exceptions. Really need to stay behind the ball better. I also kinda realized that my backswing is creeping up on me and getting me off-plane.

Sunday: Got to Willowhill around 6:40 and was able to play in a 2some as the first group. Shot 43 in about 1:10 with a triple. Hit Driver, 8-iron to the first par 5 as well. had a few short iron shanks on 1 and 9 otherwise this could have been a pretty good round.

Had a pretty good range session afterwards. Focused on shortening my backswing and firing down the target line and got some good result. Also noticed a tendancy to go outside-in big time on my wedges. Need to mimic my existing iron routine with the short irons.

On the chipping green, was chipping alot with my 60. Was a bit more consistant of the shorter chipper, but tougher on the long ones.

glenmore

played a couple rounds at glenmore when i visited my parents. things are getting a bit better. definitely hitting my driver much better 250 and straight when i get it good.

Middle iron are still the weak spot along with the occasional wedge. definitely need to swing easier with the irons and make sure i keep my new pre-shot routine consistant with my irons.

my father also mentioned that i am playing the ball too far back in my stance. don't really think i am, but i guess it is something to watch.

Sand shots were much better this week. seems like my swing is much better when I actually have some sand behind the ball.

scores were 93 and 97. decent on a hard type course.

Sunday, September 23rd

Went to Wilmette with the intention of banging out about 200 balls. Ended up hitting about 1/2 of that. One of my best sessions in a while.

Did a pretty good job establishing a consistant pre-shot routine.

1) Approach the ball and identify and target.
2) Check feet for correct alignment
3) Take a 1/4 backswing, then 1/2 a backswing swing bring back to ball coming inside with good swing line
4) Immediately take nice easy swing, driven by shoulders-- don't flip the wrists. Better using by feet as a paralell line to ensure good swing plane.

Saturday, September 22nd

Played about 13 holes at Winnetka. 1-9, 10,11, 14,15.

Hit the driver pretty well, middle irons horribly and short game Ok. Have definitely been staying better balanced on my driver. need to really get into a better pre-shot routine and stay behind the ball. Have been swinging easier when i can get into a rut. I need to start getting into more of a pre-shot routine at the range.
